Anyone with professional training in psychology or psychotherapy of any modality, who practices psychotherapeutic methods, values the profession, seeks continued professional development, and adheres to professional ethics, can become a member of the BAP.
The fact that professional status is not the basis for joining the BAP is explained not only by our values but also by common sense. The absence of a unified psychotherapy law, along with significantly different standards not only between countries but also among psychotherapeutic associations within the same country, often creates confusion about who may call themselves a psychotherapist, who may practice a particular method, who may provide supervision, and so on. Even greater challenges in regulating professional practice can be seen in the online space, while psychotherapy and counseling services delivered online continue to grow rapidly. For this reason, when considering membership applications, we place less emphasis on the specific training background of professionals practicing psychotherapy and greater emphasis on their values and their attitude toward the profession.
Anyone working in the field of psychotherapy and sharing the ethics and values of our association can join the BAP.
